10 revision tips!

So it's that time of year again.
After completing my A-levels I was so excited to have a whole summer of not having to worry about exams and revision and grades etc.
But then I started uni, and I felt like I had forgotten every revision technique I had learnt over the past 4 years and started panicking!
So I thought about my tips on making your revision count (however, I'm not being a good example seeing as I'm writing this post when I should be revising...)

1) Stay calm and don't panic!
This is my main downfall. I am constantly worrying that I haven't done enough and especially during my A-levels I suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks. There is just so much pressure. Some ways that I try and stay calm is by having baths and using my favourite Soap and Glory products because I feel so much better when I smell good.

Soap and Glory: Sugar Crush Body Wash & Hand Food
2) Create a revision timetable
This means you can space out your work evenly and be realistic about how much you have to work for and how much you do in each day. It also lets you see visually how far apart each of your exams are, making it easier to decide what you need to study on a particular date.

3) Have a "catch-up" day
I always use Sundays as my catch up day in case I don't meet my set timetable deadlines. This puts less pressure on my revision during the week and if I struggle with a certain topic, I can research it further on Sunday.

4) Use colours and pictures
As I'm reading a degree in geography, I feel obliged to tell everyone to colour in! Using highlighters, coloured pens and pictures can make any revision more exciting.

5) Use post-it notes or flashcards
These are great for helping you remember particular information such as studies, dates and places. This might seem a bit odd, but I always stick post-it notes around my room and even in the bathroom so the information sticks in my brain!

6) Take regular breaks
Don't make the mistake of being stuck inside revising for the next couple of months. Just because you're revising, it doesn't mean you have to miss out on your favourite TV show or not meet up with friends. Consider these as rewards for getting your daily revision done!

7) Eating and drinking
Always have a glass of water. Studies have proven that being hydrated helps you to think faster and have a better memory. After all, water contains oxygen which is needed for optimum brain function.
Eat food containing high energy. I always have a banana in the morning and in my old school, the teachers actually used to give them out before exams (they must be good then).

8) Ask for help if you need it!
If you're struggling with something, ask your teacher or friends for help! I find that when someone is explaining something in their own words, it's a lot easier to understand. With my friends that do the same course as me, we send eachother any resources we've found or any practice essays we've completed to help eachother which really works well!

9) Reward yourself for every hour of revision you do
I always do this! Usually I have some chocolates that I'll reward myself with if I complete an hour of revision and I find that bribing myself really does work!

oops

10) Get plenty of sleep
This seems like quite an obvious tip, but it's so important! The more sleep you have, the more energy you'll have to work. Also, a lot of exams are at 9am in the UK, so practicing getting a good nights sleep and writing essays etc at this time might be useful.

So there you go, my top 10 revision tips!
I hope they're useful to you, and if you have your own technique, type it into my comments so other people can see it too :)

My favourite perfumes...

So the sunny weather today has put me in a good mood.
I was thinking about my favourite fragrances and they all have a strong spring/summer theme, whether they be more of a floral or fruity scent.

Daisy - Marc Jacobs (£45 for 50ml in Boots)

This is such a classic perfume which has been around for years now - but is still one of my favourites. Every time I use a bottle up I HAVE to go and purchase a new bottle because it's just such a beautiful, light and summery perfume. I guess the name Daisy also reminds me of warm weather. As you can see I've almost finished this bottle and I think I'm next going to purchase the Daisy Sunshine fragrance instead because it's also such a lovely smell but I fancy a slight change.

Romance - Ralph Lauren (£50.50 for 50ml in Boots)

This has been one of my favourites for years and when I was younger I always used to spray some on myself in Boots and I always got compliments on how nice I smelt! Unlike the name suggests, I don't think this is a girly perfume at all, it is floral but it's also very strong and sporty. I was so pleasantly surprised when my boyfriend bought me the Romance gift set for Christmas - which also came with a hand cream in the same smell which I also love.

Anais Anais - Cacharel (£29.99 for 100ml in Boots)

Yes, yes I am an old granny for liking this. This perfume just brings back so many memories of my mum wearing this back in the 90's! This fragrance certainly isn't for everyone - it has quite an extreme floral scent of lilies and is very musky. But I think it's such a good price for such a classic and renowned perfume.

Princess - Vera Wang (£45 for 50ml in Boots)

I am so upset that I've only got a few sprays left in this perfume. When I was a teenager this was always my favourite and wore it to school every day as I knew how many compliments I'd get from it! Although it is targeted at teenagers, I think this will be one I will continue repurchasing for a long time because I just love its sweet yet fruity scent.

ckIN2U her - Calvin Klein (£24.66 for 100ml in Boots - on special offer)

First of all, lets just appreciate the price of this amazing perfume. The smell of this reminds me of  holidays and surfing on the beach - it's so light and refreshing. I must admit, I'm not a big fan of the packaging but the scent more than makes up for it (as well as the price). Definitely recommend.

Purr and Meow - Katy Perry (£29.99 each for 50ml in Boots)

Okay, so some of you are going to think these perfumes are tacky. But who cares, they are cats!!! I bought Purr over a year ago due to my love for Katy Perry. I wasn't really expecting a nice fragrance, I just bought it for the merchandise to be honest. But oh my goodness, it smells beautiful like vanilla, coconut and musk, with a bit of added fruit. So of course, I went out and bought Katy's newest perfume which is Meow. Now this, is what you imagine a "Katy Perry" perfume to be like... it's so sweet and smells like caramel, apple and vanilla - but it's not too powerful. If you're ever going to go for a celebrity perfume, I recommend this one.

So there you go, that is my very long, essay review of my favourite fragrances.

What are your favourite perfumes? Do any of you agree with me?

Today's makeup regime...

So this is my everyday makeup regime - something that's quick and easy to wear when I wake up late for a lecture and in a hurry!

Seventeen Maximum Volume Mascara
Apocalips lip lacquer in Celestial
Sleek i-Divine eye-shadow palette in Au Naturel
Sleek Brow Kit in Dark
Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer in Soft Beige
Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation in Soft Beige
Leighton Denney base and top coat nail polish in One For All
Barry M nail polish in Spring Green

I started off with using my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation which everyone raves about! I've been using this product for quite a long time now and I can say that I've never found a foundation which matches this one. It's so beautiful, shimmery and summery and it just does what it says on the tin (well bottle) and it wakes you up!

I like to keep my eyes simple and natural so I used Sleek i-Divine palette. I put the darker Bask colour on the outside of my eye and in the crease. The colour Taupe is more metallic so I blended this in the inside of my eye. I also blended Bask under my eye because this really suits blue eyes. Then, I just used my favourite mascara - the Maximum Volume Mascara by Seventeen... seriously everyone needs to buy this; it is incredible, it never clumps and it only £4.69. I used the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer to cover up the bags under my eyes. This concealer is perfect for under-eyes as it's shimmery, but I would never use it on blemishes as it can highlight them instead. I usually don't fill in my brows that often as I have a full fringe and it tends to hide my (awful) eyebrows. But i did use the Sleek Brow Kit which is brilliant. It comes with a wax to fill in your brows as well as a setting powder to put on top so they look really natural. Not to mention the kit comes with two mini brushes which are surprisingly good!

You all know how much I love my Rimmel Apocalips. It's such a lovely consistency, beautiful colours and they stay on all day! I decided to go for a brighter colour as my eyes are so natural so I'm wearing Celestial.

I also wore my favourite polish at the moment (and no, surprisingly it's not a pastel shade). It's actually this gorgeous bright green from Barry M. Nothing really beats Barry M and the quality of their polishes for the price. I also used my Leighton Denney base because my nails are horrible and extremely damaged!

So here is my finished make-up look for today!

15 Facts about me...

So not many of you know much about me so I thought I'd let you into my life a bit. (I also love reading other people's "facts about me" so I thought I'd make my own...

1) My name is Becky (Rebecca - however I've never been called that) and my middle name is Joy because apparently I was a joyful baby?

2) I'm 18 years old and my birthday is on the 31st July so every year at school I was always one of the last to reach the next age which I hated (especially when all my friends were 18 and I was still 17) :(

3) I'm coming to the end of my first year at university studying BA Geography.

4) I go to Royal Holloway, University of London and I live in a castle...

5) At sixth form I studied A levels in Geography, Economics, Maths and Psychology and did pretty well considering how much I hated psychology.

6) I'm really short - only 5 foot 2. The weird thing is that it doesn't even run in my family - my sister (aged 15) is 5 foot 7... HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

7) Despite my height, I was a bronze medallist in the Berkshire county school games at high jump! A lot of people don't believe me when I say this.

8) Although I'm straight and have a boyfriend, he accepts that my one true love is and will always be Katy Perry. She is perfect.

9) I live in Reading, Berkshire which is a town about 45 minutes west of London and it's nice.

10) I've suffered from anxiety attacks and had Generalised Anxiety Disorder since I was about 10 years old which has been a big problem - especially throughout my school life. However, university has definitely given me a lot more confidence!

11) I am addicted to coke (the drink, not the drug). I know how bad it is for you but I really can't go more than a few days without drinking it.

12) I have always had really bad skin, but since starting to use the Simple skin products it has improved dramatically!

13) My favourite TV programme is doctor who and I've probably watched every single episode about 3 times each.

14) The most amazing place in the world I've ever visited is Iceland. It was beautiful.

15) After doing my degree in geography I hope to travel to Africa to do some charity work out there!

Spring/summer nail colours

I love pastel shades.
I love Barry M nail polishes.
Therefore, when I came across the Barry M "Ice cream" collection I knew this was going to be a winner for me.

The collection consists of seven shades (from L-R)
Strawberry Ice cream
Lemon Ice cream
Berry Ice Cream
Mint Green
Blueberry Ice Cream
Peach Melba
Blue Moon

I have bought quite a few of these shades and the colour you get from one layer of the polish is incredible and what you would expect from Barry M.

My favourite spring colour out of this collection is the Berry Ice Cream.

It is a lovely lavender colour which, for me, is very reminiscent of the springtime.

At only £2.99 each and usually on a 3 for 2 offer at Boots, I would encourage everyone to go and have a look at the Ice Cream collection because the colours truly are beautiful!

What's your favourite colour in the collection?

I love Rimmel Apocalips!

There has been SO much hype about these lip lacquers... and rightly so!

I have extremely dry lips (especially in the winter) so wearing lipsticks is often difficult for me. So when I saw the adverts for the Apocalips Lip Lacquers I was so excited and immediately bought the shade "Luna" as it suits my skin tone perfectly. I own a lot of coral shades but this definitely leans more to orange but it still manages to look beautiful on lips! I loved it so much that I recently bought the shade "Celestial" which is a really rich yet natural pink colour. I have fallen completely in love with both of them and for the colour pay-off, the price is incredible (£4.99 in boots!!!)

"Luna"

"Celestial"

Incredible pigmentation!

Well done Rimmel... you've done it again!

What are your favourite colours from the Apocalips collection?

Quick outfit of the day!

What is up with the British weather at the moment? One minute it's beautiful and sunny and the next it's overcast and windy!
To procrastinate from revision I thought I'd do a quick outfit of the day (apologies in advance for the poor camera quality)...

Jumper - H&M (£12 ish?)
Skirt - Miss Selfridge (£10)
Bag - Primark  (£9)

Shoes - Boohoo.com (£30)

At the moment I just can't take these shoes off! Is it possible to be in love with a pair of shoes? (yes) Being 5 foot 2, a little bit of heel is perfect - especially when the chunkiness makes them super comfortable!

Hopefully I'll be wearing skirts more often as the weather (slowly) warms up!

I'm back!

So during my summer last year I decided to create a blog to fill up all the time I had. It was going well until I started university in September and I didn't have enough time to blog and the whole idea sort of fizzled out. Well, after some thought I decided to start up blogging again. Mainly because I enjoy writing down my thoughts and feelings about things and I missed the whole community of blogging. So here I am, I'm back and I'm ready to fill this summer with blog posts (hopefully every day)!
